The “Leaf Spread” Story
We Fall. We Continue.
Something wonderful that effortlessly emerged from the painterly compositions of “Leaf Spread, Fall and Continuum” is the individual stories that came with them. They weaved seamlessly together into a larger arc. It begins on a cool and early autumn day. The leaves were a bright and colorful blanket covering the ground. They’d only just detached from their branches, leaving most of the trees lining this aging suburbia street bare. Some trees still clung to a handful of their fluttering solar panels here and there. Still plump, flexible, and holding their shape, each leaf floats down to rest on the shadow-cooled sidewalk I traveled. The gentle gusts of changing weather dispersed them into evenly spaced patterns. I took a moment to admire our Earth and the definition of the “natural artist” that she is. I gratefully took some pictures of her. She arranged the leaves in “Leaf Spread, Fall” in a way that resembled their journey to the earth; one by one slowly gathering into a pile at the bottom of their descent, like small amounts of sand in an hourglass filling into a heaping dune over time. The arrangement for her sister, “Leaf Spread, Continuum”, was painted by the wind and in its own nature too. The leaves like sand being blown away from the dunes into the passage of time.
They each carry their own significant stories, but I love the larger one they tell together. At many points in life, I’ve experienced some kind of “fall” either metaphorically or physically. It usually looks like a huge set-back at first, but ends up being a pivotal and much needed shift in how I approach life. I like to believe that this is something universal that most of us experience in our lives. In the moment, a fall can feel awful, overwhelming, defeating, and painful. There are times when I want to give up. Then, I continue on. One little step in front of the other I make forward progress on my path. Taking a breath and setting my sites on my destination in the distance, I recognize this is just another leg in life’s cycling continuum.
I took a walk again through the same scene a few days later. By this time the bright and supple leaves I had captured so recently had already lost their luster. They were dulled and mulled into muted and gray tones after being trampled many times under the feet of many others who traveled the same sidewalk; quickening the leaves’ cyclical decaying return to the Earth.
“Leaf Spread, Fall”, and her sister, “Leaf Spread, Continuum”, are prime examples of melding my long love for painting and photography. The painterly compositions and movement in “Fall” and “Continuum” stood out to me as beautifully illustrated examples of these two, almost opposing natures of paint and lens, at play. Get both them and hang them together side by side. Better yet, hang them across from each other like they’re in dialog. Or choose your favorite to feature. They’re each strong enough to hold their own either separately too.
Fine Art Prints
Original Prints Series
Release: December 22, 2024
Fine Art Prints are hand printed, signed, and numbered by myself, Natalie. Fine art prints are more than a typical print product because I, the artist, take extra care in making them, there’s a limit to how many of this series will be made, they’re hand-signed by me, and so much more. I’m also more interested in where they eventually end up in life, which might mean I reach out again one day to just catch up – with the patron’s consent, of course!
The number of prints is limited to twenty-five (25) for each of the photos in “Leaf Spread, Fall & Continuum, Original Prints Series”.
At in-person events, I have a limited number of prints available on-hand, but will take orders for prints to be produced and shipped after the event as long as the series has yet to meet its limits.
Production by demand means it could take a week or more to print and another to ship, depending on the chosen options.
I love these hoodies! Wearable and washable artworks. Leaf Spread is perfect for celebrating autumn. These quality hoodies with flattering cuts and styles, made from recycled materials, and are really comfortable, and will become your all-time favorites!
Posters and Flags are designed and directed by me, Natalie, and fulfilled by Printful. They are signed with a specific digital signature, typically do not have a limit to how many can be produced, and are more affordable and functional. Plus, designs are specifically tailored to each product.
Posters are high quality prints unlimited in reproductions, digitally signed, and low-cost. They’re a great way to liven up your spaces with several works of Natalie’s fantastic art!
